Red, White & Pure

Last visited: 1 April 2007

Had this with mum on Sunday. [Clockwise from top right: Lime & lemongrass, Szechuan pepper, Sesame, and Ginger] It is very unique as the chocolates are herbal chocolates, meaning that besides having cocao as one of the ingredients, it is mixed with chinese herbals such as ginger, szechuan pepper, red dates etc. In this way, the chocolate will appear to be a healthier choice for the consumers.

Comments: The chocolate is not the smooth rich kind that you can get from those from the European countries. But it tastes really unique and the chinese herbals is of high quality from the well known brand Yu Ren Sheng (余仁生) herbal retailer. For example, the Sesame chocolate taste very much similar to those sesame paste that you get from the chinese dessert stalls. I like the Szechuan pepper the most as it has a strong aftertaste. The Ginger and Lime & lemongrass taste normal and kinda lose its uniqueness. The price is high as they are sold at S$4.65-S$5.25 per piece, so it is pretty much a luxury item to have. I would recommend you to give it a try at least once because its herbal taste is what differentiate them from the well known chocolates that you can get from Europe and other famous chocolate outlets.

Location of shop

VivoCity level 2 (next to the Earl's Swensen)

Ratings (Total 5 points)

Packaging: 3.5
Variety: 3.5
Healthiness: 3.0 (the chocolate is still in the form of fudge)
Price: $$$$
Overall: 3.5

Live & Wellness (apple and raspberry tea) -- 3.0 [cannot recall the exact name; the tea is quite sweet]
Other remarks: The shop is also a 2-level cafe and restaurant facing the Sentosa island. You can enjoy the nice sea view of Harbourfront while you have a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of chocolate there.
